Certification

In 2006, Oxstand introduced the International Education Management System ISO9001 to improve our services to students, parents and staff, and passed the audit in 2008.

In cooperation with selected institutions from overseas, Oxstand has created a cosmopolitan environment offering a choice of international programs for students from the multinational investment communities of Shenzhen and HongKong. Oxstand prepares its students for further studies abroad through advanced academic training, university application, and visa application.

Oxstand's Canadian International Education Program (CIEP) follows the Ontario provincial curriculum for Grades 7 through 12. Students receive the same guidance and instruction, and use the same textbooks and resources, as students educated in Canada. The curriculum focuses on critical thinking skills and creativity. It is designed to prepare students to function and advance in the ever-changing global village. Upon graduation from CIEP students are eligible to apply to universities in Canada and the United States. Some such universities may request students to write an English proficiency test: Oxstand provides intensive training and guidance in preparation for these tests, as well as guidance in selecting the best universities for its students.

The curriculum is taught by experienced, highly motivated, and trained Ontario teachers who emphasize a hard work ethic and high achievement. Our philosophy of teaching includes a desire to both stimulate and engage the whole student to that s/he is prepared to become vibrant, leading members of modern society.

All of our courses are taught in English, and they include: Maths, Science, Business, geography, Marketing, Ares, Career Studies, Public Speaking, and Learning Strategies are taught in English. We also offer extra intensive English language programs to all students in Grade 7-10, and TOEFL/IELTS/SAT training for Grade 11-12 students. A large part of any educational environment is the overall atmosphere and here at CIEP, we strive to provide students with a well-rounded education. We offer as extra-curricular activities: a basketball club, yearbook club, green club, chess club, music club and a student council, just to name a few.

Staff

Oxstand Canadian International Program is run by a group of dedicated, professional educators. Our teachers are trained, certified and licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Education, and hail from all backgrounds and areas of expertise. Our goal is to create an academic community in our school, to promote respect and love, to foster lifelong learning, to educate the hearts as well as the minds of our students.

Education is not the filling of a pail but the lighting of a fire.

Curriculum

Courses Offered at CIEP

Oxstand's Canadian International Education Program follows the Ontario provincial curriculum for Grades 7 through 12.

Extra-curriculum activities

A large part of any educational environment is the overall atmosphere and the Canadian International Education Program, strives to provide students with a well-rounded education. We offer extra-curricular activities, such as basketball club, drama club, music club and a student council. These change yearly according to student needs and interests.

English Pathway Program(EPP)

The Canadian International Education Program at Oxstand offers an intensive English Pathway Program for  This program targets those students whose English is not at the level necessary for entry into the regular Ontario program.

Every new student who enrolls at Oxstand is given an entry level exam that helps determine the amount of support they may need in improving their English proficiency. If it is determined that English support is needed, the student is then placed in one of our ESL classes with the appropriate amount of assistance and access to resources.

Our English Pathway Program teachers are ESL certified and experienced in providing the programming support that is necessary for individual students to reach their full potential. Once students have reached the required level of English fluency, they will graduate from the English Pathway Program into the regular day school program. They then have the opportunity to work towards achieving the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.

University Liaison Office and Counselling Centre

The Canadian International Education Program has a University Liaison Office and Counselling Centre to further support our students in applying for university. Beginning in Grade 10, students start planning their university pathway through individual consultations with the University Admissions Counsellor. This helps to ensure that each student has an Individual Pathway Plan to support them in achieving their post-secondary academic goals.

Due to our outstanding reputation and connections with universities, each year about thirty universities make presentations to our Grade 10-12 students and some offer on-site applications. This gives students the opportunity to ask individual questions and to speak to admissions personnel directly.

In addition, we offer individual support to each Grade 12 student as they apply to universities and have supported students applying to Canada, the USA, the UK, Australia, Hong Kong, Korea, and various universities in Europe and elsewhere in the world. This is a specialized and unique service provided by the Canadian International Education Program, and parents will be included and consulted in this process as well.  There is no need to hire outside agents for applications, as our staff are experts in this area and can efficiently support our graduating students in their transition to university.  Each fall, we hold a Parent's University Information Night for Grade 12 parents to ensure that they are all well aware of the procedures and timing for applications.

We are proud to have a 100% rate of graduating students with post-secondary offers and this is due to the excellence of our graduating students, as well as our expertise in supporting them in the application process.

Behaviour Code

The mission of Oxstand International School is to raise up courageous, intelligent, conscientious world citizens. In light of this lofty destination, the standard we hold our students to along the journey is also lofty. Our foremost guiding principle is respect. Any student who conducts himself or herself respectfully cannot, except perhaps by accident, violate any rule. Any student who violates a rule is clearly not conducting himself or herself in a respectful manner.
It is not CIEP's wish to hand out punishment. Rather, in the case of violations, it is our hope to guide students to adopt the sort of habits and behaviour common to the intelligent, the mature, the successful, using discipline as our signpost. Our rules are like the braces planted next to young trees, whose purpose is to help them grow tall and upright. The ultimate, eventual goal is for students to grow this way on their own, without need of guidance.
The behaviour code is detailed in full in the CIEP Handbook, available for download.
Worth noting here, for the sake of parents, is Oxstand's policy on mobile phone use. Students are not to bring mobile phones to school, period. Students who live in the dormitory are allowed possession in their dorm rooms, where they are allowed use between the hours of 5.30pm - 6.30pm, and 9.00pm - 10.00pm. We encourage parents to communicate with their students during these hours. Mobile phones are distracting to students and staff and disruptive to learning. Students who bring phones to class will have them confiscated; likewise students found using phones outside the dormitory, or inside the dormitory at any other times than those specified. Oxstand provides a public phone for students to use between classes and after school. If they have an emergency or must contact a parent long-distance, they may do so through the CIEP office.
